Bedford is part of a triad of cities that are grouped together. Hurst-Euless-Bedford, or HEB, is located in Tarrant County and situated right in the middle of the metroplex between Fort Worth and Dallas.
Bedford incorporated as a general law city on Octoberber 1957 with a total population of 1,700. During the next seven years, the population increased. One of the main catalysts for this growth boom was the opening of the $3 million Bell Helicopter plant which pioneered the helicopter aviation industry in Texas. The advent of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 1974 contributed dramatically to the growth of Bedford and the Mid-Cities area in the years to follow. Current population for Euless is approximately 42,500, and the average household income is estimated at over $65,000.
Today, the population of the ""Bedford" part of the HEB equation stands at 49,000. Families flock to the area for the city's aquatic centers, and the state-of-the-art facilities that are situated in park settings offer water slides, play structures, pavilions, and concession stands.
Several quality school districts serve the city of Bedford including Keller Independent School District, Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, Birdville Independent School District, and Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District.
